"For the Love of Dogs" Art Show

The ArtSpace inside the Historic Athenaeum, one of Indy’s up-and-coming gallery spaces, is pairing with local artists, Jim Kelly, Casey Jo Ailes, Christine Plantenga, Judith Sturges and many others to help out man’s best friend.

The artists will portray canines, including some of IndyHumane’s very own shelter pooches, who touch all of our hearts. Stop by from July 2- July 29th to check out all of the pieces.

Woofstock 2010!!

Gather the whole family (and the four-legged members too, of course) and head out to the Verizon Wireless Music Center on Saturday, June 12 for a day of fun in the sun! This dog friendly event includes live music, pet and people contests, local celebrities, a human/canine walk, adoptable pets, pet vendors, local pet organizations and so much more! With such a vast array of activities everyone is sure to be entertained! This 3rd annual event is not only a wonderful time for the whole family to be together, but all proceeds go to help all of the wonderful pets in need of a home in Hamilton County. Grab a leash and your four-legged friend for a day at the park! Join Hamilton County Parks and Recreation and the Hamilton County Humane Society on Saturday, May 15 from 11:00a.m.-3:00p.m. at Potter's Bridge Park for an event geared towards your doggie! Dog related vendors, activities, giveaways, contest, and on-stage entertainment will make this day a memorable one for you and Fido.

11:30 a.m. White River Greenway Trail
Take a strut on the White River Greenway Trail! Sniff out treats along the way for a chance to win pooch prizes! Complimentary gift will be handed out to all walkers, while supplies last.

12:30 p.m. Look-a-like contest
Do you think you and your dog look alike? Let Hamilton County Parks and Recreation be the judges! Registration is on-site from 11:00a.m.-12:00p.m. Prizes awarded!

1:30 p.m. Costume Contest

Mutt Strut This Sunday!!

The Humane Society of Indianapolis invites everyone to join them for Mutt Strut this weekend on Sunday April 25, 2010, the day the track goes to the dogs! Animal lovers and their pets from across the nation will be on hand for this family-friendly event that includes a 2 1/2 mile walk (with or without a pet) around the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway.


Check-in is from 11:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. and participants may check in any time during those hours. Cost is $25 minimum pre-registration fee for ages 16 and over. $15 for ages 7-15, children under age 7 are free but will not receive a T-shirt. All individuals must be pre-registered before April 21. Also visit the IMS Plaza to hear music from DJ Mama Mia, visit the sponsor and vendor booths and shop the HSI Re-Tail store and have your pet microchipped! Hello all!

It's another busy Monday here at the center for me and my posse! This morning, while out on a nature walk, we discovered some baby kittens and their mama who are living in our woods! I wanted to play, but Mom said no :-( Speaking of kitties, we just finished a great event called Welcome to the Jungle at the Humane Society this weekend, where over 50 kitties found new homes! I wasn't allowed to go because Mom thought I'd be disruptive, but I was proud that my center participated in such a great event! I'm looking forward to the 500 Festival of Pugs this weekend too!

I also have a new friend named Josie who just might give my girlfriend Sam some competition (just teasing, Sam...my heart belongs to you)! Josie is Jennifer's new puppy and so far she is wearing Kingston out--I think he really likes her! Anyway, we had a group playtime together and thought you might all like to see the pictures....enjoy!
