In Memoriam~~Fancy Kudinova

We at Best Friends Carmel were saddened to learn that our dear friend Fancy passed away a few days ago. She belonged to Olga, our former groomer, who is now working at the Best Friends Disney location. During her time at Best Friends Carmel, she was always a favorite of all the staff, and was always happy to give kisses in exchange for "cookies." She loved to watch the kitties in Kitty City on her way home at night, she never complained and she always had a wag of her tail for anyone that passed by. She was eleven years old, but still full of energy. She will be greatly missed, and our thoughts go out to Olga, Ken and the rest of their family :-(

In Memoriam...Harley Sams

HARLEY SAMS We here at Best Friends Carmel have certainly had our fair share of losses over the past month, and unbelievably, we lost yet another friend in Harley Sams this past week. Harley and his faithful sister Zoe have been long-time boarding and grooming clients here...they have been together for the past 11 years. Poor Zoe is nearly lost without her Harley but her owners and the staff at Best Friends are keeping a close eye on her. Our thoughts go out to his family in this sad time.  We will miss you, Harley!

SETH LARSEN

Sadly, Best Friends Carmel had to say goodbye to yet another good friend today.....Seth was a 13-year old retired, rescued racing Greyhound who lost his battle with cancer today. His owners made the painful, yet merciful decision to let him go when they realized his quality of life had deteriorated to the point that he was suffering. Seth was both a boarder and home care doggy...he loved his daily walks with his pet sitters, and when he came to the kennel, he loved resting on his big fluffy bed in his indoor suite. He was a gentle, passive, beautiful dog who touched the hearts of everyone he met. He will be greatly missed, and our thoughts go out to his family in this sad time.

Ellie Leach

Ellie was always such a happy girl and a favorite of ours here at Best Friends.  We never saw her without her tail wagging and she was loving to everyone that she would meet.  Ellie passed away last Friday after being diagnosed with cancer but she has left us with some of the sweetest memories.  She will be greatly missed- our thoughts go out to her family.

Sadly, we lost one of our own dear friends this past week....

Lucious belonged to our groomers, Olga and Ken, and several days ago they had to make the heart-breaking decision to let him go. Although he was only 5 years old, Lu had begun to suffer from frequent seizures and hip dysplasia; he was just no longer himself. We all loved him; he was a Caucasian Ovcharka--a special breed and most definitely a special dog. It is therefore in his honor that we refer everyone to some tips on how to cope with the loss of a pet. Our prayers go out to Olga, Ken and the rest of their brood who survive Lu: Fancy, Isis, Rosie, Maggie, Sugar, Rocky and Kisa, Chopper the Hamster and The Fish :-)

We also thought we would share a favorite poem of ours that has been a comfort to us, and surely to anyone who has felt the heartbreak of losing a pet:

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent, his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
